The Thermara warms without a cord. A heat reflective layer sits between the plush top and the backing, catching the warmth a cat gives off and sending it back rather than letting it escape into the floor. Nothing plugs in, nothing switches on, and there is no cable for a cat to chew.

The top surface is a soft short pile that holds its texture through repeated washing. The mat goes into a machine and comes out flat, which matters on a surface that collects fur and the odd muddy paw. The backing grips enough to keep the pad in place on tile and hardwood.

At mat thickness rather than bed thickness, it drops into places a bulky bed will not fit: inside a carrier, on a windowsill, in the base of a crate, or on top of an existing bed as a warm layer. It rolls up for travel and flattens again without a crease.
